How to handle being bullied

Process Objective: To help you overcome being bullied in the most effective way.

Step 1

STEP 1
Understand why you're being bullied.
READ
Bullying is the result of a tormentor using their popularity and/or insecurities to harm and intimate you. There are various reasons that people may bully you, but often times its because they dislike themselves.

Lady Gaga once said, "There really is no difference between the bully and the victim." Truth is, you're just being who you are. Most likely, the bully is infighting themselves to be just like you: authentic.

Yes, being bullied, harassed, and embarrassed hurt but you're better than anything people say about you. Better yet, you're stronger than anything people use to harm you.

STEP 2
Talk to someone you trust.
TAKE ACTION
Coping with being bullied can be one of the worst times in life. Bullying can make you feel worthless, like a failure, or an embarrassment; but you're not either of those. This time in your life is difficult and you need to talk with someone that you trust. Talking with a friend or family member is not about being a wimp, but not going through this alone.

The best way to fight a bully is not alone, but with someone who can fight it thoroughly with you.

STEP 3
Release your pain in the best way.
RELIEVE
The pain, sadness, humiliation, and frustration that you feel is how I felt also. Being bullied made me dislike who I was, because people who didn't even know me were judging me. Even more so, they made rumors about me. Luckily for writing, I found a way to express my thoughts and feelings. Some pages had tears on them, because that's how I felt.

Talk with someone that you trust about how you feel, but also write daily. This can help you realize that each day does get better.

Believe you are a awesome person, and please let people help you. A helping hand is often the best resolve.

STEP 4
Fight back.
WRAP-UP
People bully you because they want to bring you down. You're above them; you're who they want to be. Take pride in yourself being authentic and comfortable for who you are. Coping with being bullied is one of the worst times in life, but you are strong; you can outlast this storm.

The best advice to handle being bullied is to fight back. Don't go down without standing up for yourself. Fighting back does not mean physically, but through resources that are available to you. Like mentioned previously, let people help you. Please don't feel ashamed that you're being bullied, because you're actually the champion.

Growing up, I had people offer to help me but I was too embarrassed to accept their help. As a result, today I have one regret: Not fighting back. There were people who had my back, but I didn't have my own back.

Take that into consideration.
