There's only two roadblocks to fulfilling equal equality for the gay community; the Republicans and the Supreme Court. The party's leaders continue to insist marriage should be between only a man and a woman. If it were a century ago, they might have a point. However, today marriage is between two people that are in love. Regardless, if the two people are of the same sex or not, love is love. Seriously, do republicans not understand that the LGBT community is going to get equal equality, with or without their support? Nationwide, there are currently more than 70 marriage equality cases that have been filed in 29 states, plus Puerto Rico, according to Human Rights Campaign (source).
At only 19 years old, I think it's remarkable that young people are standing tall and changing the status quo that marriage should be between only a man and a woman. Our millennium is finally making it's mark in society. This is the same millennium that employers say are pot heads, but set aside racial bias of the past and elected the first black President in United States history. And this is the same millennium that will get equal equality for all in the United States. Not only are Republicans still in their elementary views, the Supreme Court continue to hide behind close doors instead of taking action. The Supreme Court can put an end to the discriminatory law by coming to a decision saying the Constitution requires every state to recognize gay marriage. The legislation would not only be a breakthrough in U.S law, but for the World. The United States is the world leader and if we cannot take the lead on recognizing gay marriage how can we expect other countries to even recognize basic human rights of their constituents? We cannot.
In January, Kordale Lewis posted a photo of him and his finance helping two of their three children get ready for school; something that you don't even see amongst straight parents. Kordale received backlash from the photo but it's common for a society that accused Michael Sam of 'throwing it in their face' after his kiss with his boyfriend on national television. Diversity is what Kordale Lewis photo and Michael Sam's kiss shared with the World, nothing more or less. Instead of trying to hide the diversity of our Country, parents should educate their children on the opportunities that arise from it. I hear parents all the time say that they will love their child in whatever they choose to do or be, so does that include an advocate for equal equality or no? Positively, I hope so. Trutfully, Kordale and his finance are probably better parents than that of his critics. Let's keep it real; few fathers help their wife get their children ready for school or even comb their daughter's hair for that matter.
As far I see it, critics are hating on two great fathers and two happy couples.
I've probably said some things in this post that some people will disagree with or upset over, but I keep it real. The truth hurts which is why Republicans continue to block equal equality for gay Americans; Their intimidated by a movement that is more than about them. Let gay marriage be an issue of free speech not equality. The LGBT community deserve the right to live happy, and marry who they love. If you don't like it, or they don't like it, so be it. It's a free country, there's always the option of free speech. Whether the Republicans or opposing parties agree with gay marriage or not, love is love so let it be.
