It's year 2015 not 2014; set some goals and strive to achieve them! There are 5 keys to having success in your pursuit of success, and the first key begins with the actual goals.
Set at Least 5 Goals
Every year you should have goals, not so much a New Year resolution. The reason is because goals are more specific and easier to measure. With New Year resolutions, the only way to identify whether you had success in achieving the resolution is looking at the previous year and comparing the two. However, with goals you can check them off as you accomplish them. So let me ask you, does this make sense? It should, because it's the start to how to be successful in 2015: Knowing what you want to achieve in your life and/or career this year. About a week before New Years Day, I laid on the floor with a piece of paper and drew a line down the middle. On the left side was titled personal goals and alongside, to the right, was professional goals. The goals combined equaled to eleven and I'm aiming to accomplish all of them. Now that I know what I want out of my personal and professional life, I can start working towards them each and every day. Get a piece of a paper and start your list now if you haven't done so already!
Trust in the Process
If it's not harming your personal life or professional success, keep it like it is. Sometimes in life, especially in our careers, we start changing things because we think that they aren't working or it's the best move to take. Taking those steps aren't terrible, however we aren't always right in our outlooks on things. Impatience can cause you to expect success right away, which is not the reality of achieving tremendous goals or dreams. Let's say that Johnny wants to be a quarterback at an elite program like Alabama or Oregon, but don't want to redshirt his first year. Obviously, Johnny wants his cake and eat it too, but he will most likely be sitting on the bench his first year. Hopefully someone explains the reality of football to Johnny or he may just have to learn the hard way. He could go to college where he starts at quarterback, but have no chance at being developed into an NFL-caliber quarterback like a elite program could offer him. The point is, being successful at anything is a process and you must trust in it to understand the process.
Create a Routine
Staying on routine is so important, as plenty of things can distract and omit your focus. The first step to staying on routine is to establish one (laughs). There are many ways to do this, including weekly schedules or day-specific routines. Weekly schedules allow you to plan ahead and spread all your tasks throughout each day of the week. I like weekly schedules because I know what I'm doing beforehand and they give me the best outlook on the week. On the other hand, day-specific routines are actions that you do on every single day of the week. For example, on Mondays you make phone calls to all your clients or lets say on Fridays, you go outfit shopping for next week. Both methods are unique and effective in their own ways. Knowing which one is perfect for you may be obvious, but at least try both methods. By doing so, you will discover there are no two methods, it's just one method. Lastly, sorry for any confusion, it's just a routine of mine to complicate things!!
Keep a Balance
Have your ever fell on your face? Yeah, it's not so pleasant. Keeping a balance in your every stage of your life is vital to ensuring that you're success is preserved long-term. When you focus solely on one thing, something else is being abandon. At the moment it may not seem like a big deal, but long-term it will show itself. A few ways to develop balance in your life begins with the above tip, creating a routine. Organizing your tasks and desires help you diversify your routine, and at the same time be effective in the things that you have to do in life. Whether it's doing mommy duties to big brother duties, keeping a balance in between those duties is arguably the stepping stone to your success this year (and beyond). Also, another good way to keep a balance in your life is to have fun. I'm sure you have that one friend who always want to go out for drinks or the beach. That friend that you have most likely is going to help keep you out of the house and the office 24/7. Partying is not the worse fun in the world, it's the best, especially when you party on occasion or in celebration. CHEERS to life, right?
Keep on the Peddle
Determining the timeframe of success is unrealistic, however it should always be expected. You work hard to get somewhere in life and surely that will happen. However, when that success comes along, keep your foot on the peddle until you gas out as much success you possibly can. That was a little corny, but remember my remarks when you accomplish your goals and/or dreams this year. And when you do I won't jabber and say, 'I told you so', I'll just smile and think it in my head! The 5 keys to success in 2015 begin with you. Remember: Set a least 5 goals, Trust in the process, Create a routine, Keep a balance and Keep on the peddle. The sixth step, well, is your payoff.
Good luck and Happy New Years!
